In This Breakfast Club I'm The Brain

I think it's important for everyone to have things that they do for themselves;
                           things like:
                                      singing
                                         dancing
                                              painting
                                                 blogging
                                                    drinking coffee
                                                       even Zumba.

To have places and things you can do when you just need to ESCAPE is so important. These are the things that help me stay sane when my brain gets scrambled with the unimportant things.

I have to admit that a lot of times I find myself doing things to appeal to others, not that this is all bad; actually I think it has a lot to do with our human nature, but I don't think everything should be for others. People all need something that is just for them. Me included.

So why the Breakfast Club? Besides it being a classic 80's movie, it shows the importance of being who you are, and in the case of the "Brain" in the story, doing something just for yourself. That character was lost in trying to appeal to others and in the course of this movie he has this realization that there comes a time and a place where you just have to stop and do something for yourself, and yourself only, no matter what  anyone else thinks. The paper he writes in the end of the movie is just that, his paper, his thoughts, his feelings; just for him, by him.

I have lots of hobbies, but recently I have discovered Zumba classes. For an hour I get to dance and be away from the work and madness of college senior-hood and I feel a sense of ease. Regardless of whether I do good in class, I always end feeling refreshed, like that hour escape was just for me. I am blessed enough to have things that let me escape, zumba has become one of those things. Doing something a little kooky and outside of the box a few times a week, is something just for me.

What are you doing for yourself?

Are you allowing yourself to find an escape form the madness of everyday life?

I think you should. Who knows maybe you'll find out that in the simplest terms, in the most convenient definitions. You're either a brain, an athlete, a basket case, a princess or a criminal. Like I said before, in this breakfast club I'm the brain.

Peace and Love,
the gal in the red glasses
